Welcome
to
The Charlotte Harbor
Nature Festival

This event was held on November 3, 2007 at the Charlotte County Sports Park
on  SR 776  in  Port Charlotte, Florida

All the exhibitors and programs showcased the natural wonders and treasures of the SW Florida
environment, so that we could all learn about the role we play in protecting our region's natural beauty.

The Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program is pleased to sponsor the eighth annual festival.
A day to explore, learn and enjoy the natural environment of SW Florida and  "Connect with Nature".

The nature photographs presented here are in the approximate order that I took them.

Enjoy

There were acres of colorful red white and blue tents
set up to house the Nature Festival
pictures of Port Charlotte Florida events

First stop was at the Charlotte Harbor National Estuaries Program booth where they were handing out lots of useful and interesting information plus tiny binoculars for kids and tote bags for adults.

My personal thanks for sponsoring these photo web pages which
will go on teaching people about Nature for years to come.

The Kids

There were tons of things for the kids to learn and do
Like cutting our paper houses and building a little
environmentally friendly paper town on the floor
Almost everything at the festival was kid touchable... which I think really makes it more fun for the kids to learn about nature
These kids are learning how to cut palm leaves
and weave them together into useful tools
There were arts and crafts of all types scattered around the festival

Mote Marine Lab was there with some very interesting things
This giant clam shell from the Pacific was so heavy
that it  took two kids just to hold it
These Nine Armed Luidia were to display to show how one of these unique sea stars could swallow a sand dollar.  Unfortunately the guy on top ate one that was too big to swallow
The spiny lobster shell is just a molt... When the lobster gets too big for his spiny shell he just backs out of the old one and a new one grows over top him

Mote Marine also had a really great touch tank set up
close to the ground where kids could reach in the water
and touch these unique marine creatures
The only rules were that they had to keep the creatures in the water

Adults had a lot of things to see and do also.  This booth
was run by the Charlotte Harbor Aquatic Preserve
US Coast Guard Auxiliary had useful information and handouts
Florida Department of Agriculture
